Lisa Peng AI Engineer, Computer Perception, MIT MEng

I am a former student of Bill Lam (who I will always refer to as Coach Bill). I had the privilege of being under their mentorship during my high school years at LHS as a member of Exit 5 Robotics from 2015 to 2017. During that time, I witnessed Coach Bill be a consistent, dedicated, and inspiring leader to our team.

Coach Bill ran a workshop out of his own home that was always open to us, no matter the hour. He also made every student feel supported. He listened to our ideas with enthusiasm and an open mind, and made sure we had the tools and resources we needed to succeed. He has a gift for creating environments where students feel comfortable asking questions so they can grow in both confidence and skills.

Coach Bill provided something truly special to the Livingston community: this space where all-girls teams could tinker, compete, and excel alongside the best robotics teams in the state. This sense of service was something Coach Bill instilled in all of his students as well. He organized and encouraged every one of us to work at outreach programs on the weekends to advocate for women in STEM and inspire younger students to get excited about robotics.

Coach Bill is the reason I’m an engineer today, and why I cycled 3,000 miles across the country in 2018 to run robotics workshops for kids K-12 in underserved communities (a little crazy, but entirely worth it).

I strongly support Bill Lam for town council. Livingston will be well served by a leader as compassionate, creative, and deeply committed as Coach Bill.
